Elderly Woman Struck by Teen Driver

Tuesday night, an elderly woman was struck by an 18-year-old motorist on the Upper West Side just blocks from her home. The driver remained at the scene and was not charged. (No word on if he will face charges some time in the future). According to the police, the pedestrian did not have the right of way when she was struck. “The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad said the SUV was in the left lane on Broadway going south with the green traffic light.” The NYPD is still investigation what exactly happened.
This accident is just on of the numerous ones that involve the injury or death of a pedestrian; in 2016 alone. Mayor de Blasio’s Vision Zero was implemented as a way to prevent accidents; involving vehicles and/or pedestrians but so far, the number of injuries and deaths have not dropped as much as they should have. More information about Vision Zero can be found Here
