Pedestrians in the United States are one of the few groups of road users to experience an increase in fatalities. In 2013, 4,735 pedestrians were killed in car crashes in the U.S, an average of one pedestrian crash-related death every 2 hours.
Studies show that senior citizens and children are most at risk of being in a pedestrian crash-related injury. Alcohol impaired drivers and pedestrians are also at high risk of being injured or killed, for almost half of traffic crashes involve an intoxicated person.
